I was a little ways away from Landers Fire Tank, the next water source. Wasn’t that worried, I still had all morning to get there and it wasn’t warming up fast. After three solid hours, I came upon an extremely faded sign that said “H2O.” When I got to the tank it said, “Boil for 5 minutes.” Since I shipped my stove home I had no other choice. I filled up my empty bottles and drank as much water as possible. Found out Willow Springs was bone dry. This made the next water stretch 40 miles long. Filled up my water bladder and got back on the trail. Saw a hiker Kalil wrote in the log book earlier today. I dashed ahead to meet another fellow hiker. I finally was able to catch up to him at the end of the day. He was from Austria and looked like he had seen better days. I don’t blame him, today was not fun at all. Alot of today’s miles were in a burned mountainside and super sandy desert. I expected a couple hundred miles of this, so just a couples days I would accept as tolerable. My legs were shot, but I was determined to keep going. Made it 2-3 more miles to the top of a massive mountain. The view of endless vistas as the sunset made my long day more satisfying.
